About mirno more peace fleet :
The “mirno more peace fleet” was founded in 1992 after the beginning of the first war in former Yugoslavian countries. The original idea was to bring together youth from the different conflict countries on sailing boats under the theme „united in one boot“- with the goal to reduce prejudices and learn tolerance. During the first peace fleet, it was 1992, seventeen children participated on three boats sailing the Croatian sea.
Since this first time the project grew and now takes place annually every third week of September in the Croatian Adriatic Sea. In 2008 the peace fleet reached the number of 950 participants from 18 nations accompanied by skippers and educational carers on 100 sailing boats.
Shortly after the founding year we extended the project to all kinds of social disadvantaged youth, nominated by non-profit and other social organisations. Meanwhile the concept "mirno more" has become a successful international recognised peace project, which helped increasing the number of benefactors considerably. By now it is far the largest charitable sailing project for social disadvantaged youth and children worldwide.
In the meantime new partner projects were founded in Turkey and Croatia based on the original idea of the main project. These take place once a year. New partner organisations in Austria, Bosnia i Herzegovina, Croatia, Germany and Slovenia could be won to strengthen the mirno more project
In September 2010 the mirno more peace fleet organisation received the highest international appreciation during an official visit of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Vienna, where he - together with the Austrian Federal Minister Mr. Spindelegger - expressed his appreciation for the project. Already in 2005 the project was ensured the official support by the European Union.
The mirno more event is largely made possible through private and public sponsors without who the peace fleet would not be possible in the form that it exists today. The peace fleet became popular through several international TV and newspaper reports, which made it internationally well known.
Our sponsors helped to make mirno more grow to its actual size and importance and we appreciate on going support from them.
